-Lectures “Breeding queens” for beekeepers were held

Between March 23 and 30, 2016, the Association of Citizens Nešto Više organized professional lectures on the topic “Breeding queens” for beekeepers from Ravno, Nevesinje and Berković. The lecturer was Radivoje Maksimović, MA, from Trebinje. The first lecture was held on March 23, 2016. in the Business Incubator Trebinje for beekeepers from Ravno, which was attended by 17 beekeepers; The second lecture was held on March 24, 2016. in the Meeting Room of the Municipality of Nevesinje with the participation of 21 beekeepers; The third lecture was held in the building of the Municipality of Berkovići with the participation of 10 beekeepers. The fourth lecture was held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016. in cooperation with the Beekeeping Societies Roj from Konjic and Bagrem from Jablanica. Over 100 beekeepers participated in the lectures. Methods of breeding queens without transplanting larvae (Quinby’s, Miller’s, Alley’s method, etc.) are presented in detail,

as well as methods of breeding queens with larval transplantation, the most significant of which is the Doolittle method. It is the most common method in the world and is recommended for both amateur and professional beehives and is used by over 80% of queen producers in the production of queen cells.
Methods of preventing and combating bee diseases were also discussed, as well as measures that need to be taken in the spring in order for bee societies to best prepare for spring grazing.
Expert lectures were organized within the project “Support to Agricultural Development in Herzegovina”, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
