TWO NEW PROJECT OF MAPPING ACCESSIBILITY OF SCHOOLS FOR PWDs

Association of citizens initiated the idea to map the degree of accessibility of all schools in BiH for access for persons with disabilities (PWD). So far, we’ve mapped 100 primary and secondary schools in Canton Sarajevo with the support of USAID and the Fund open society BiH. To cover other parts of BiH, too, the American embassy in BiH, made it is possible to map the schools in Mostar and Banja Luka, and the Ministry of labour and social policy provided funds for the mapping in the Zenica-Doboj Canton. In addition to mapping, we want to offer our expertise and economic solutions possible for adaptation of the existing schools to become more accessible for the PWD. The map is located on page http://zelimznanje.com/map/ and the main objective is to make it available for young people, children, study in the same way as their friends. We want to provide them and their parents, simply and quickly, to find a school that fits their needs. This way, parents and children won’t have to visit each school individually. The schools will know how much money will be needed to adapt, based on notional architectural solutions. The schools will have a good basis for asking for funds from amenable institutions or donors, and what will ultimately allow young people with disabilities to be schooled and more independent through life.
