The second round table organized within the project Construction of Drought Adaptation Capacity in Agribusiness, funded by USAID, was held in Gracanica on December 16, 2011. The round table brought together farmers and local government representatives in Gracanica, with the aim of discussing possible measures to support local authorities in adapting farmers to drought. The round table was attended by 14 participants, including representatives of the Municipality of Gracanica, the management of the agricultural cooperative Gracanka, a representative of the cooperatiove Agrodob, president of the local farmers’ and representatives of organizations implementing the project-CPR Tuzla and Nešto Više.

The following was concluded at the round table:

It is necessary to form a team of agricultural experts who will support farmers in drafting project proposals and help them apply for funds in the field of agriculture. Such a team will be formed in close cooperation between the Municipality of Gracanica and the Gracanka Cooperative.

Although there is a plan for the construction of irrigation systems in the municipal infrastructure development plan, which would serve more local communities, for practical reasons it is recommended that the municipality support individual farmers in building their own irrigation systems. Therefore, farmers will need to prepare a simple project proposal and submit it to the competent municipal service for processing.

Plan funds in the municipal budget to support farmers in building irrigation systems.
