Round table at the University of Banja Luka

On Tuesday, 16.11. In 2010, a round table was held at the University of Banja Luka on the topic “The importance of volunteering for higher education.” The aim of the round table was to present the importance of volunteerism for acquiring practical knowledge and skills, development of positive values and student activism, and for the gathered representatives of the University and relevant ministries to discuss the possibility of developing student volunteer programs, their evaluation and recognition.

Roundtable participants agreed that volunteering can have a significant place in the higher education system and its potential modalities were discussed.

Having in mind that the Law on Higher Education of RS was adopted in the middle of this year, and foresaw the possibility for students to gain ECTS credits through volunteer work, the main conclusion of the round table, proposed by Rector Stanko Stanic, was that it was necessary to form a working group an act which will define in more detail the conditions of student volunteering and its evaluation.

The round table was organized by the Youth Communication Center (OKC Banja Luka) UG “Nešto Više” from Sarajevo with the support of the Student Parliament of the University of Banja Luka.

This is one in a series of activities of the Youth Communication Center (OKC) Banja Luka and the Association of Citizens “Nešto Više” (UGNV) Sarajevo within the initiative “Get a job by volunteering-volunteer to get a job”. The goal of the partnership initiative is to reduce the youth unemployment rate by providing and evaluating organized volunteer work of students within higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
