A ROUND TABLE “ACCESSIBILITY OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS FOR YOUTH WITH DISABILITIES IN THE SARAJEVO CANTON” WAS HELD

28. April 2017, at the hotel Grand, the Association of citizens “Nešto Više” in the framework of the project “We Also Want to Go to the School!” organized a round table “Accessibility of primary and secondary schools for youth with disabilities in Sarajevo Canton”. Representatives of the Association, Jelena Backović (the project coordinator) and Adem Lisičić (Project Manager in the Association) presented the results of the project. Online map of the schools in the Canton Sarajevo presented is, which aims to ease the search for adequate adaptable schools for persons with disabilities. Also, statistical data on the degree of accessibility, and design solutions and bills of costs to adapt the schools to become more accessible for children and youth with disabilities were presented In the past eight months we’ve visited more than 100 primary and secondary schools in the area of Sarajevo Canton. The legal solutions that protect the right to education without obstacles were presented on the round table. The presenters were Amira Krehić (Chief of the department for monitoring the rights of persons with disabilities) Office of the Ombudsman institutions and Almina Ćibo (senior associate for education) the Ministry of civil affairs of BiH. The director of the Gymnasium Dobrinja, Enver Ahmetspahić, presented an example of good accessible school. The round table was also attended by representatives of other institutions, organizations, PWDs and schools.
