-Training “Production in hydroponics and organic-mineral substrates” was held

Within the project “Support to the Development of Agriculture in Herzegovina”, the Association of Citizens Nešto Više organized training for staff, partners and interns on the topic “Modern plant production systems: Production in hydroponics and organic-mineral substrates”. The training was led by Prof. at the Agricultural Center for Professional Development Mostar. dr. Elvedin Hanic, prof. emerit., and the training was attended by 16 participants.Dr. Hanić emphasized the importance of developing new technologies in food production due to the loss of land, population growth, and water shortages in the world. Participants had the opportunity to hear what are the advantages of production in bio-controlled areas, and then to be informed about new technologies in food production, including the so-called. “Soilless Culture” as one of the alternatives to conventional production.
Several models of hydroponic production were presented, of which Dr. Hanic recommends the Latin American model: it is compatible with sophisticated models in this way of production, but sufficiently suitable for the social circumstances of the population in BiH, in order to avoid stress among producers due to investments in production. Also, the participants had the opportunity to discuss trends in urban agriculture, which is emphasized to be increasingly represented in the future.

Dr. Hanić showed his own examples of food cultivation, with an emphasis on production in aqueous solutions (floating systems), and presented a lettuce grown in this way for demonstration. Both the lecturer and the participants expressed joy over the plans of the Association to soon establish, among other things, this method of production at the Farm NV in Humilišani, and to create conditions for educating as many people as possible about hydroponic production.
