Today we signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Gender Center of Republic of Srpska within the project “Development of training programs for members of municipal/city commissions for gender equality in Bosnia and Herzegovina” which aims to strengthen the role and position of women in political, social and economic processes and support local partnerships in establishing effective mechanisms for gender equality in local communities in BiH.
We are looking forward to the continuation, so far more than successful, of cooperation with our colleagues from the Gender Center of RS.
The director of the Gender Center of the Republic of Srpska, Mirjana Lukac, MA, and the executive director of the citizens’ association “Nešto Više”, Aleksandar Bundalo, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation today. The Memorandum was signed within the implementation of the project “Development of a training programs for members of municipal/city commissions for gender equality in BiH” (2021-2023) and which is supported by the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Within this project, the Gender Center of Republic of Srpska will cooperate to support the promotion and advocacy for women’s rights, strengthening the capacity of all actors in 10 local communities of Republic of Srpska to introduce gender equality with a special focus on women from vulnerable groups. With this cooperation, the Gender Center of Repubilca of Srpska only continues its long-term work with local self-governmental organizations, as well as vulnerable categories of women, all with the aim of institutional support for the basic human rights of women and men.
The signing was organized on the occasion of March 8- International Women’s Day, because on this day we are reminded of women who fought for the right to vote, the right to work and better working conditions, the right to life, justice, peace and dignity for all. However, this day also reminds of the difficult position of women in society who continue to discriminate against on the basis of gender in public and private life. Many of them are victims of gender-based violence and domestic violence, and some have their basic econiomic, social, political and cultural rights endangered or insufficiently provided. That is why it is very important that all actors of our society act together in order to improve the position of women in the Republic of Srpska every day.
The project is implemented by the Association of Citizens “NeštoViše” in partnership with Amica Educa in cooperation with the Gender Center of the Government of the RS and the Gender Center of the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
