We Held a Workshop on “Inclusive hiring persons with disabilities: Challenges and benefits”

Today was held the first of two planned workshops entitled “the Inclusive hiring persons with disabilities: Challenges and benefits”.

Fifteen participants from the local self-government, institutions and non-governmental organizations from Foča, Zenica, Sarajevo, Tuzla, Grude, Bijeljina, Banja Luka and Mostar, took an active involvement and showed express interest in issues related to inclusive hiring.

The workshop addressed topics like correct and incorrect terminology that is used in direct communication with persons with disabilities, in regulations and laws, in the media and generally in public; where to publish an ad for a work intended for persons with disabilities; how to do a quality job interview with a person with disabilities and what it takes to ask about disability; how to provide an opportunity to persons with disabilities to gain work experience through vocational practice in inclusive communities; how to ensure quality support and integration into the new team; what is a reasonable adaptation of working space for persons with disabilities; laws and funds on vocational rehabilitation in the FBiH and RS; the special and general conditions of employment for persons with disabilities; programs and incentives for employers who employ persons with disabilities.

At the end of the workshop, participants gave specific suggestions that will be put into the handbook for employers, material in preparation in order to inform and motivate employers to employ persons with disabilities.

The activity was carried out in the framework of the project “Community of different, but equal citizens” which is financed by the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and implemented by Organization UDAS, Nešto Više and Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly (hCa) Banja Luka, with the support EuResurs.
