-Economics students want to volunteer in NGOs

On 02.02.2011. As a representative of UG Nešto Više, Adem Lisičić attended a meeting organized by the Center forStudent Career Development of the Faculty of Economics, University of Sarajevo. The topic of the meeting was “Opportunities for volunteer work of students of the Faculty of Ecnomics in NGOs”.

The Center for Student Career Development considers it important that students be involved in some form of volunteering during their schooling, in order to be able to help the community in which they live, and on the other hand to enrich their experience and improve existing and gain new skills. The students presented their career center and received concrete advice from the present NGO representatives on how to improve the work of the center and how to make it easier for students to find volunteer engagements.

The problems that arise for students due to the non-existence of the Law of Volunteering in the FBiH as well as the non-existence of the rulebook on the evaluation of volunteer work by the University were partly discussed. The participants were reminded that UG Nešto Više is trying to deal with these problems through the project “Get a job by volunteering-Volunteer to get a job” which is currently underway.

Adem Lisičić, as a representative of UG Nešto Više, emhasized that most employess and members of the Association went through various career centers in the country and abroad and achieved a large number of volunteer hours, and in case there is a need for a career center, they need counseling. In case there is a need for volunteers within the Association, the career center will be notified.

The Center for Student Career Development is an organizational unit of the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo that helps students in professional orientation, career development and connecting with the business world. In addition to informative and advisory talks, the Center organizes lectures, seminars, courses and workshops in order for students of the Faculty of Economics to better position themselves on the labor market.
