We witness hate speech daily on all social media platforms. Such speech is encountered through comments on internet news portals as well. We all need to consider the consequences of this type of speech, especially on the mental health of young people, as well as on peace and security. We want young people to understand that every written word online, in a comment, or message directed at someone can trigger very negative outcomes. Young people need to know that everything remains permanently recorded and that one day they may regret their thoughtlessness, potentially affecting their ability to secure desired jobs, scholarships, and more. However, the most crucial aspect is recognizing that there are individuals among us experiencing difficult periods in their lives, and one hurtful word could lead to tragic consequences. Therefore, we strive to engage with as many young people as possible in schools, and based on their reactions, we believe we are highly successful in doing so. In some schools, students have requested additional workshops to delve more deeply into this topic.
The Citizens’ Association “NEŠTO VIŠE” is implementing a project titled “Enhancing peace, security, mental health, and equality through the analysis of hate speech in the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and reducing its occurrence and consequences through workshops and advocacy campaigns.”
The project is supported by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives – Bosnia and Herzegovina.
👉 We are grateful for Canada’s contribution to this project through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives.
