The Ambassador of the United States of America Patrick S. Moon on 03.05.2013. At the ceremony, he presented certificates to the participants of the Interethnic Basketball Camp for high school students from Bosnia and Herzegovina, held in Ilidža as part of the International Sports Initiatives program.
Funding for the program was provided by the US State Bureau of Education and Culture and the United States Embassy in Sarajevo with the Center for Intercultural Education and Development at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, in cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Partner Citizens Association.
The camp is the first component of the program and represents a mutual exchange of young leaders in sports that will emphasize leadership, teamwork, tolerance and interethnic cooperation.
The second phase of the project will be held in June, and involves a twenty-day visit to the United States for 12 selected coaches. They will meet in Washington and New York with experts who run programs for the at-risk group of American youth to hone their knowledge and develop new methods to apply in working with young basketball players. They will implement the acquired knowledge through projects in their communities.
