On October 16,2012, the Program of International Sports Initiatives was launched. The program is implemented by the Center for Intercultural Education and Development, Georgtown University in Washington, and the Citizen’s Associaton “Nešto Više”. The target group of the Program are young leaders aged 14 to 17, high school students who train basketball, as well as their coaches and teachers. 12 schools and or /clubs will be selected for this Program, and 36 young men and women, members of selected institutions. The program will be implemented through three phases:
First phases: Basketball camp in BH, a total of 12 institutions will be selected for this camp. Each of the selected institutions will send a coach/ teacher and three young people aged 14-17 , high school students, to the camp. Eight coaches from the USA will be present at this camp, who will pass on their knowledge to young basketball players and their coaches.
Long Phase: The Road to the United States. Twelve selected coaches/ teachers will go to the United States and spend two weeks in basketball camps, where they will gain new knowledge in the field of sports and youth leadership development.
Phase Three: Each of the trainers/teachers, upon returning from the USA, will have the opportunity to develop and implement their own project, which will be supported up to the amount of 1000 USD. Funding for this program was provided by the Government of the United States of America, ie the Satate Bureau of Education and Culture and the Embassy of the United States of America in Sarajevo through the SportsUnited of the United States program.
