The Whalen Family Foundation PDF Print E-mail
The Whalen Family Foundation, Oakland, California (USA), is a longtime donor to the Citizens’ association Nešto Više. President of the Foundation, Daniel Whalen, as well as program manager Carol Yamasaki, and Foundation manager Christina Fesler, are also longtime mentors to the Nešto Više staff.

The foundation supported, and is still supporting, various Nešto Više programs and projects implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina, namely: PeaceTrails Youth Leadership Adventure Program, a Stipend Program, Founding of the donor network, Project for development of local communities, Development of agro business through agricultural cooperatives, Center for career development, PeaceTrails in service of BiH, Business program for PTYLAP graduates, Self-sustainable cooperation, Training programs with US professors from CSBSJU Minnesota. Besides project support, the foundation has, since 1999, supported organizational development of Nešto Više, including quality development of staff and beneficiaries of the Association, based on the principle of lifelong learning.

usaid_logo_new1USAID supports our project Agriculture-Agribusiness Microenterprise Development in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the implementation of the Program for Development of Agricultural Business through Agricultural Cooperatives, the Nesto Vise staff cooperated well with the staff of the USAID LAMP project. USAID also supported the project Capacity Development of Adapting to Drought in Agricultural Business, implemented by Nesto Vise and the Center for Development and Support, a partner from Tuzla.

YERP_logoProject „Life skills for the future - Let's learn, let's do it!“ (2011/2012) and project “Youth Employment in Rural areas Phase I and II” (2010/2011) have been financed by the MDG-F Programme Youth Employability and Retention Programme (YERP),  a three-year programme, which is being jointly implemented by five UN Agencies: UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, IOM and UNV in partnership with the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs, BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees, Entity Ministries responsible for labor and education, the BiH Agency for Statistics, Entity Agencies for Statistics, Federal Employment Institute, Cantonal Employment Services, Employment Service of Republika Srpska and Employment Service of Brčko District, primary and general secondary schools, municipalities and rural communities, individual firms as well as private sector associations, and civil society organizations from the community level to the Diaspora. The programme is funded by the Spanish Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund (MDG-F).

MDGF2Technical support to municipalities for developing environmental local action plans (in 12 municipalities in B&H) implemented by Nesto Vise and CRP Tuzla (2010/2011) as well as projects: “Improvement of Water Supply System in Berkovići Municipality”, “Improvement of Heating System in Cazin's Municipal Building”, and “Covering the Drainage Channel of Rainfall in City Zone of Ljubinje” (2012) are performed within MDG –F program for Environmental protection and climate changes. The MDG-F Programme Environment and Climate Change: “Mainstreaming environmental governance: linking local and national action in BiH” is a three-year programme funded by the Spanish Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund which is being jointly implemented by five UN Agencies: UNDP, UNV, UNEP, FAO and UNESCO, in partnership with the BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs, the RS Ministry of Civil Engineering and Ecology, the RS Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water-Management, the FBiH Ministry of Ecology and Tourism, the FBiH Ministry of Agriculture, Water-Management and Forestry, the participating municipalities and civil society organizations. The program is supported by the Spanish MDG–F Achievement Fund.

ECThe Europeran Commission supported the founding of Nesto Vise in 1997, as part of a network of Youth organizations. The project of founding the network recieved the "The Prize of Europe“ award, as the best project in the fight against xenofobia. The European Commision currently supports the ACCORD project: Development of agricultural cooperatives implemented by Nesto Vise with the Center for Development and Support, a partner from Tuzla.
